Track It! Mystery #7

I see claws so it must be a... Wait, what?
Picture
We're all natural born trackers, able to see patterns, tell stories and connect with heart. And we don't always see the truth at first glance, that's for sure! ;) Who's tracks do you see in the middle here? What questions could you ask to confidently confirm its id? Qualities of claws, toes, palm, negative space, asymmetry, measurements, proportions, context...? Really, check it out!

Take a pic of a set of tracks (or any natural mystery) you find then tell me who it is and why, tracking for qualities of claws, toes, palm, negative space, asymmetry, measurements, proportions and ecological context. I look forward to seeing what you find. Enjoy!

Don't mind me...

This very pregnant doe is having a spa moment to preen and clean, rest and restore. Sounds nice, eh?! :) Even with me near, she feels safe enough for self care ~ baseline behavior. Hallelujah!

How can we be in close contact without overpowering and scaring away? What helps the deer, doves or squirrel feel safe enough with you to stay? Your mood, or mind, or stillness, or intention, or what? Test it out then get back to me... Seriously! Have fun with it. :)

Wait, what…?

I walk this path a few times every day, but who else does too?! Who are my neighbors? Just past my gate I noticed another entrance that someone else uses, and I found a tiny hair that proves it. Yes! Is the fox back? That tawny house cat too? I wunna know! :)

See that bare patch in the grass? Who made that, and why here?

We all need rest sometimes, even during a full moon in the springtime. And yet the conditions needed for good rest varies a lot between people. Some can sleep anywhere anytime on a dime. Others may need the eye shade, ear plugs and perfect pillow. J The same is true between foxes, deer and everyone else in the wilds. Who made that bed in the grass, and how do you know? What conditions were met for good enough rest there? Who’s resting near you now? And how do you know? You may need to look where you nearly never go to find out…

Take a pic of what you find then send it to me. I'd love to see it!

Did you hear that...? Wow, these winds and rains! Intense, eh... Meanwhile the robin in my 'hood still sings in it, and the warbler too. Not just deals with it, but SINGS! :)

Songbirds are super duper sensitive little beings, often vulnerable to the elements and predators. And they're incredibly attuned and resilient.

Where's the closest singer in your 'hood right now? Listen. Can you hear him...?

And these little gems! I love them, especially in the early morning light. Orbs, turrets, funnels, cobs, domes, hammocks, zigzags, even in the rain. Where's the nearest weaver to you now, and who's it's prey? Chances are it's within reach...

Got wildflowers (and flower lovers) nearby? Everyone does somewhere this time of year. Where's the nearest bloomer to where you're reading this right now, literally? Go find it, and see who else found it too, even if the sun is down. Bees, aphids, ants, spiders, birds, deer, who? What's the story of your nearest flower? It's not all nectar, ya know... ;)

Take a pic of what you find then send it to me. I'd love to see it!
